The Belle Afrique restaurant is located at 4327 rue Charleroi, in Montréal-Nord.

But now, the Belle Afrique restaurant has become a viral phenomenon due to its publications seen millions of times on TikTok and that’s where it becomes interesting for us.
Basically, the videos always start roughly the same way: a young adult with white skin, a vaguely haggard look and fingers expertly smeared with sauce sits in front of an empty plate and stares at the person filming him.
This person is the lady from the restaurant. We do not know if she is the owner, manager or cook, but we do know that she films her customers and that she approaches them by saying “Hello sir”.

Polite and well-fed young men invariably respond, “Hello, ma’am.”
The lady filming then asks what they ate and most often, it is “fufu grain sauce”, a dish which would be of Ivorian or Cameroonian origin, depending on the sources.
The customers then explain what they liked regarding the dish and they usually end their conversation by inviting the viewers of the video to also try the Belle Afrique restaurant.
Videos posted on the TikTok restaurant account have tens of thousands of views, and some even reach into the millions.

In the comments, what comes up most often is that the customers seem to be captive hostages of the restaurateur, which is obviously not the case…
