this ad caused a scandal, the brand apologizes

A month ago, Samsung published an advertisement on Youtube to promote the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Buds 2. It depicts a woman in the process of run alone in the street in the middle of the night. What make the headlines as it does not stick to the reality of women, in addition to encourage them to take such risks. Faced with the controversy, the Korean giant was forced to apologize.

Samsung is controversial with this ad

The Samsung brand finds himself in turmoil! A month ago, the company’s Youtube account revealed a new ad aimed at promoting the Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Buds 2. In this one, we can see a woman running alone in the streets of London equipped with the famous devices of the brand. The problem is that this advertisement was not unanimously accepted by Internet users, whose voices were raised elle “lack of discernment” regarding women’s safety.

Indeed, this new spot is far from reflecting the reality of womenas Esther Newman, editor-in-chief of Women’s Running magazine and podcast, reveals. “Women don’t run at that time because we’re too scared,” she revealed to Radio 1 Newsbeat. The latter explains that women do not run at such a late hour for fear of being the target of aggressors. Because of this, she adds that even if the idea crossed their minds, they would not wear headphones, which would thus prevent them from hearing the arrival of a potential aggressor. “Seeing a woman choose to run at 2 a.m. with headphones on is just ridiculous.” she castigates.

Samsung sends its most sincere apologies

In response to this controversy, Samsung defended itself to Radio 1 Newsbeat: the brand said it did not want to show itself “unresponsive to ongoing conversations regarding women’s safety” before apologizing: “We apologize for how this may have been received.” If this advertisement has so outraged Internet users, it is becauseit echoes a tragic story that happened in Ireland last January : Ashling Murphy, a young woman of 23 years old, was killed while jogging.

It’s not the first time that the smartphone maker finds himself in turmoil. Just a month ago, Samsung was forced to apologize following being accused of deliberately preventing its smartphones from using the full performance offered by the processor in order to improve their autonomy.
