After crossing the desert due to his links with Scientology, Tom Cruise returned more determined than ever. One of the films that confirmed his return to Hollywood was none other than Edge of Tomorrow directed by Doug Liman (The Memory in the Skin) from a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects, Top Gun Maverick), Jez and John-Henry Butterworth (Le Mans ’66). Freely adapted from the Japanese short story All You Need is Kill, this feature film tells the story of Major William Cage condemned to fight an alien invasion during a day that repeats itself endlessly each time he dies.
During the promotion of the film, Emily Blunt – main actress of Edge of Tomorrow – confided in the microphone of Conan TBS Show. She notably returned to a particular scene during which she might have “killed” Tom Cruise. The latter refers to the minivan chase sequence. Following a first take deemed “too slow” by director Doug Liman, E. Blunt was asked to speed up. After having somewhat lost control of his vehicle, the trip ends in a tree. Fortunately for the two actors, there is more fear than harm, although the accident might turn out to be dangerous. In the end, all’s well that ends well for Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt hilarious once the pressure subsides.
