A teenage British-Belgian pilot has become the youngest person to fly solo around the world in a small plane. The current world record was broken by 17-year-old Mac Rutherford. After a five-month trip through 52 countries, Mack returned to Sofia, Bulgaria.
The 17-year-old achieved this feat by overcoming obstacles on the way. The teenager completed the journey by facing sandstorms and spending nights on an uninhabited Pacific island. Although his parents are British, Mac Rutherford grew up in Belgium.
His elder sister Sarah is the youngest woman to circumnavigate the globe. Sarah had completed the journey in January this year. Mack said her sister was the guide on her journey. The previous record holder was British pilot Travis Ludlow, aged 18 years and 150 days.
