| Thiruvallam Custody Death: CBI to probe

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has ordered to hand over the probe to the CBI following the discovery of suspicious bruises on the body of Suresh, who died in police custody at the Thiruvallam station. The case file will be handed over to the CBI by the Crime Branch Special Team soon. The government had directed the DGP to refer the case to the CBI in case of custodial death.

Crime Branch ADGP: S Sreejith and CBI The investigation was recommended. The post-mortem report stated that Suresh had 12 bruises on his body which might have been the cause of death.

Station SIs Vipin Prakash, Vaishakh and Grade SI Sajeev were suspended in connection with the incident and a show cause notice was issued to Station House Officer Suresh V Nair.

The local police claimed he had no injuries and that a heart attack was the cause of death, but the crime branch denied the allegations.

The post-mortem report showed six bruises on the right side of the neck below the jaw, on the back of the right thigh and above and below the back. It remains to be seen whether these bruises occurred following he was taken into custody or when Suresh was beaten by the police at the scene. The police also failed to take Suresh to the hospital. Opposition leader VD Singh has demanded that the case be referred to the CBI. Satheesan had also demanded.
