And 48,000 combatants have benefited from the Community Rehabilitation Program with the support of MINUSMA and the World Bank.

Organized by the Platform for Initiatives, Expertise in Education and Support for the Promotion of Decentralized Communities (l’ONG PIEAPCD), in partnership with MINUSMA and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Customs, this day of exchange which brought together some thirty media men, bloggers and activists responds to the need to inform and raise awareness on the process of DDR in order to give them the necessary and appropriate tools for their work.
Goals :
– Identify and train press professionals, bloggers and activists in order to improve their understanding of their roles and responsibilities in times of crisis of a
-And create a network of actors of media professionals on conflict prevention and resolution mechanisms and on the RSS/DDR.
According Francis SOMDA of the MINUSMA RSS/ DDR Section as part of the DDR 8 cantonment sites were built by MINUSMA and 2300 combatants from the CMA, platform and other groups participated in the accelerated DDR process.
For his part, the communication officer of the NGO Platform for Initiatives, Expertise in Education and Support for the Promotion of Decentralized Communities (l’ONG PIEAPCD) M. Siaka Diarra, highlighted that the role of the press is essential in democracy and it is important in this period of crisis to strengthen the capacities of media men on violent extremism, on radicalism, on the RSS/DDR etc.
“And the holding of this meeting responds to the need to inform and raise awareness regarding the DDR process in order to give them the necessary and appropriate tools in the context of their work”, he added
By presiding over this day of discussion for media men, the chief of staff of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Worship and Customs Lady Seck stressed that the objectives of this workshop are perfectly in line with the vision of the highest authorities in the country on the responsibility of journalists in times of political, institutional and humanitarian crisis.
« This Awareness and Sharing Workshop on the Roles and Responsibilities of Media Professionals in Times of Crisis is an opportunity for participants to address the resolution relating to the mandate of the UN Multidimensional Mission for Peace in Mali MINUSMA to better understand the stakes of the said mission,” he said.
