The Brussels firefighters intervened, Sunday morning around 7:10 a.m., rue de Stalle in Uccle, for around thirty scooters which caught fire, next to a warehouse where the two wheels of the company GO Sharing were stored. According to the spokesman for the Brussels fire brigade, Walter Derieuw, the scooters were inside but were not in charge “a priori”. Residents of the surrounding area were asked to keep doors and windows closed due to the possible emanation of toxic gases.
The firefighters extinguished the fire and immersed the batteries of the devices in containers filled with water. A specialized firm will come and remove them when there is no longer any risk of the fire reigniting. In addition to the scooters, a facade and a van suffered damage, said Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the Brussels fire brigade.
Residents in the area were also asked to close doors and windows to avoid inhaling smoke, which might contain toxic gases from battery components. Vivaqua, the Brussels intermunicipal water company, has also been notified by the firefighters so that it can check whether the water discharged following the fire is not polluted.
