Thirty cities in São Paulo invest in technology to boost tourism

Research involving 118 cities in 51 tourist regions and 44 regional tourist circuits points out that information about tourist attractions is lacking in most locations. Conducted by professor and researcher Antonio Carlos Bonfato, from Senacn-SP, the “Diagnosis of the potential for creating smart tourist destinations in the State of São Paulo” also points out that only a quarter of tourist cities have signposts in accordance with the standards of the UNWTO – Organization World Tourism; information centers are lacking in 54% of cities and only 4% have totems; finally, information management by digital means is available in only 1% of destinations in São Paulo.

In the State of São Paulo, for example, cities with updated tourist inventories, in accordance with Law 1261/2015, improve their position in the ranking of tourist municipalities. São Paulo has 70 tourist resorts and 140 MIT – Municipalities of Tourist Interest. In 2022, these 210 municipalities had access to more than BRL 200 million in investments from DADETUR – Department of Support for the Development of Tourist Municipalities, an agency of the Secretariat of Tourism and Travel of the State of São Paulo – SETUR/SP.

Aiming at organizing and controlling the tourism portfolio, some municipalities in São Paulo have implemented a platform that integrates the tourist offer management system and a digital tourist guide. The Intelligent Management System of Turismo Destinos Inteligentes is present in 30 municipalities in São Paulo, including large, medium and small ones. Of these, 17 are tourist resorts and nine Municipalities of Tourist Interest (MIT), in addition to large cities such as Guarulhos and São José do Rio Preto.

In real time, municipal tourism managers in these municipalities can have access to information such as: the number of jobs generated, the beds available, how many means of food your city has, the flow of visitors and the possibility of carrying out demand studies, issuing reports and disclosing the agenda of events.

The 30 cities that use the Intelligent Tourism Management System Intelligent Destinations are:
