Presidential hopeful Yoon Seok-yeol commenced the new year by attending a Sunday service at Myungsung Church in Seoul’s Gangdong-gu on January 2nd.
Arriving approximately 30 minutes before the 7 a.m. service, Mr. Yoon carried a Bible as he exited his vehicle. Elder Pastor Kim Sam-hwan delivered the sermon.
Awaiting him at the church entrance were Yoon Jae-ok, the campaign’s strategic advisor, and Lee Man-hee, a campaign executive. Church representatives also greeted them.
A church official welcomed Mr. Yoon, complimenting his choice of scripture.
Following the service, Mr. Yoon addressed reporters’ inquiries about his selection of Myungsung Church for his first worship of the year.
When questioned about the most impactful passage from the sermon, he cited a Psalm that conveyed the importance of faith and trust in God, even during adversity.
Mr. Yoon’s earlier religious engagements included visits to Yoido Full Gospel Church on October 10th and Sarangui Church in Seocho-gu on November 21st.
Recent polling data from KBS, MBC, and SBS revealed a significant lead for Democratic Party candidate Lee Jae-myung, surpassing Mr. Yoon by 8.9% to 12%, exceeding the margin of error. This setback prompted concern within Mr. Yoon’s camp.
A survey of 1,000 adults, conducted by Korea Research from December 29th to 31st and commissioned by KBS, showed Mr. Lee garnering 39.3% support compared to Mr. Yoon’s 27.3%.
