Tea and sweets go hand in hand for many people, it’s important to pause and consider the possible implications before moving on to the next delicious treat.

For decades, people have enjoyed the seemingly innocent practice of nibbling on sweets and cookies while sipping tea throughout the day. During Soviet times, this habit was considered harmless. Renowned nutritionist Yevgeny Arzamastsev warns of the harmful effects of such empty high-calorie pleasures. Such a habit might pave the way for the development of diabetes and obesity, both of which are perilously close on the horizon. Because of this dietary mistake, it is not uncommon to gain more than 10 kilograms within a month.

These treats are high in empty calories that cannot be quantified. They consist mainly of simple carbohydrates, devoid of any essential vitamins. This, in turn, upsets the delicate balance of carbohydrate metabolism, which ultimately leads to the development of diabetes and excessive weight gain.

The combination of tea and sweets can cause a short-term rush of pleasure, but the long-term effects can be serious and irreversible. According to scientific studies, regular consumption of these sugary treats leads to a sharp increase in blood sugar levels, forcing the pancreas to work overtime to produce insulin.

Over time, this constant need can exhaust the pancreas, weakening its ability to effectively regulate blood sugar levels. Consequently, the risk of developing type 2 diabetes increases dramatically, posing a serious threat to a person’s quality of life.

Experts stress the importance of maintaining a balanced diet that is rich in nutrients and low in empty calories. Fresh fruit or whole grain snacks can satisfy food cravings while providing essential vitamins, fiber, and antioxidants.

Let’s remember that self-indulgence should be done in moderation. The next time you grab a plate of cookies for tea, think twice and choose a healthier alternative, your well-being depends on it.
