Thiruvananthapuram: Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that things that should not have happened at the UAE consulate in connection with the gold smuggling case. The Ministry of External Affairs is aware of these matters. S. Jayashankar said in Thiruvananthapuram that whoever he is should act according to the law.

The Ministry of External Affairs and the entire country cannot afford to pretend that it has not seen such things. The minister also responded that including diplomatic representatives should act only according to law. Jayashankar also stated that he is not commenting further on the gold smuggling case as it is a matter before the court.

To a question regarding Nupur Sharma’s remark, Jayashankar said that the Gulf countries have no misunderstanding in this regard. The issue related to Sri Lanka is a very serious issue. At present, no influx of refugees is expected from Sri Lanka. Therefore, Kerala-Tamil Nadu coasts do not need special vigilance, the minister said. The Minister said that the Prime Minister is making special efforts in the matter and India is providing necessary assistance to Lanka.
