In a post on his Facebook page, Thierry Warmoes (59), leader of the Namur PTB, announces this Wednesday morning that he will resign from his mandate as municipal councilor of the minority.
“I discovered today that my name is mentioned in the press. For a private matter, linked to my divorce, and moreover invented from scratch, he writes. It goes without saying that I completely deny the facts that we I blame myself. Justice will do its job, and I have full confidence that it will establish the truth. In order to be able to calmly prepare my defense, and not wanting in any way to involve my party in this private matter, I will resign from my mandate as city councillor.” He refers to an article published in the DH this Wednesday morning, referring to a complaint filed by the ex-wife of Thierry Warmoes for acts of domestic violence. The complaint dates from April 27, 2019 and follows a scene that occurred the day before.
The lady explains that she was violently pushed and thrown to the ground. She had suffered several days of incapacity for work, complaining of back pain and a hematoma on her arm. She also denounces a climate of violence of which she was the victim for several years. She says she was beaten or dragged by the hair by her husband during their life together. For his part, Thierry Warmoes does not deny “that something happened” on April 26.
But in his version it was his wife who had the first violent gesture, throwing a shoe at him, while he would have “slightly jostled” her. He also denies having been a violent husband. As a reminder, Thierry Warmoes, head of the PB list in the elections, has been on the municipal council since 2018. He was also a federal deputy since 2019. Position from which he has just resigned in July, citing professional reasons. He explained that he had found a job with a former employer and wanted to devote himself to it. He assured at that time that he wanted to keep his municipal mandate.
