The conductor has recovered – and celebrated a brilliant Wagner performance in the Semperoper.
A select ensemble of singers and the most exciting Wagner conductor of the present: the opera world makes a pilgrimage to Dresden to see the “Meistersinger von Nürnberg”. Expectations weren’t set too high. The style of declamation demanded by Wagner – and for a long time hardly achieved anywhere – might unfold completely freely and with playful ease. Thielemann’s careful orchestration ensured that no singer needed to be afraid of drowning in the highly dramatic orchestra waves.
