Thibaut Evrard plays Ludo, aka “The Bear” Passionate husband, he strives to save his relationship and agrees to become an escort to rekindle his wife’s desire. But his exaggerated modesty will play tricks on him… Interview with the bear.
Your character is reminiscent of those of Vincent Macaigne, for whom you played in the theater in 2016 (Missing). A man lost in his relationship and in his work, but who will do anything to find happiness again.
Thibaut Evrard: I couldn’t see myself playing any other character than Ludo. I feel close to his conception of love, at the center of which there is fidelity. For him to become an escort for his wife is crazy violent. How far to go for your relationship? This question forces viewers to question sexual relationships outside of love.
Like your character Ludo, you are uncomfortable with nudity on screen. Why did you accept this role?
Ruben made me want it. And then, I found a feminine progressivism in the script which stimulated me intellectually.
Each escort has a nickname to make themselves desired by clients. You yourself chose Ludo’s, “The Bear”. For what ?
He says that he is a protective, shy man with crazy hair.
Your definition of masculinity?
L’illusion.
That’s to say ?
That of the character of Mathias, who avoids his vulnerability. This is what masculinity was like for me who was born in the 80’s. An illusion, that is to say that everything you do in your room, you don’t show it. And you pretend to be solid and without secrets.
Is it difficult to share the stage with three other men?
We became friends precisely because everyone wanted to create an energy circulating equally between us and Marysol Fertard (who plays Ben’s sister, editor’s note). We worked on our characters together. For each sequence, we thought about improving the dialogues, in order to highlight the complexity of all the characters.
Did any scenes echo your own failures in bed?
I do not believe ! With his first client, Ludo says: “ I’m not going to make it “. That, yes, obviously. But the question of performance is in fact that of union with the person.
You are 37 years old. Would you imagine becoming an escort to save your relationship?
I wouldn’t be able to do it. When the series was being filmed, a friend began training to become an escort for people with reduced mobility. In Switzerland, it is financed by the state. This friend made me think, because she talked to me about helping people – something I couldn’t imagine before. I saw this as the last choice on the list. While no, it can also be the first.
