After a superb start to the cyclo-cross season followed by a slump, Thibau Nys left to recharge his batteries in Spain. He took three days off there before joining his Lidl-Trek team’s training course to prepare for the 2024 road season.
It was there, in Calpe, that he told Laatste Nieuws that he would not resume road competition before the Tour de Romandie, on April 23. Which will give him time to breathe following the cyclo-cross season (which he should resume on December 23, in Antwerp).
Before this Tour de Romandie, Thibau Nys will do an altitude training course with the Lidl-Trek selection for the 2024 Giro. Will he still be at the start of the Tour of Italy on May 4? “I don’t fixate on it. I will only start if I feel 100% ready and able to help the team or even get a result on my own.”
The 21-year-old rider might be the third Belgian headliner at the Giro with Wout van Aert and Cian Uijtdebroeks, whose participations remain to be confirmed but seem more than likely.
Nys, who has shown enormous qualities as a puncher this year, might then participate in the Tours of Switzerland (in June) and Norway (in August).
