The effect of absolute chemicals on the body
Dr. Amjad continued: “When eggs are eaten and enter the digestive system, the body believes that the protein in eggs is a foreign body that is harmful to the body and the immune system begins to attack it by forming antibodies to it, which leads to the body releasing some chemicals, including histamine. As well as the immune system’s release of means of defense from chemicals to protect the body.” Regarding the effect of these substances released by the immune system, Dr. Amjad Al-Haddad said that they affect the respiratory system, the digestive system, the heart, the circulatory system, and the skin, and lead to the emergence of some allergy symptoms such as nausea, headache, and skin problems. wheezing, stomach pain and rash.
Symptoms of an egg allergy
Al-Haddad explained that the symptoms of egg allergy in a child appear at an early age, and they appear following eating eggs for several minutes to a few hours, and they only last for a period not exceeding a day, and egg allergy mainly affects three organs in the body, namely:
- Skin: When you see a red rash on the skin or redness and swelling around the mouth.
- Digestive system: If the child complains of abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.
- Respiratory system: It appears in the form of a runny nose, itching, tears in the eyes, and sneezing. It can cause a chest attack, and the child begins to cough and have difficulty breathing.
Other symptoms of an egg allergy
The child may develop a severe case of anaphylaxis, which can cause swelling of the mouth and throat, severe difficulty breathing, and a severe drop in blood pressure, leading to coma.
Treating an egg allergy
- Avoid eating eggs or foods that contain eggs.
- Some epinephrine injections are used as needed when a child has eaten eggs and severe allergic symptoms such as a swollen throat, chest pain, or difficulty breathing occur.
- Monitor the child for at least 4-8 hours following the onset of severe allergy symptoms.
- Your doctor may prescribe some antihistamines to relieve allergy symptoms.
