While the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, sent a representative to Basra, to meet the families of the deceased and the wounded.
In 2022, more than 4,900 people were killed in traffic accidents in Iraq, an average of 13 deaths per day, according to Ministry of Health figures.
The causes of these accidents usually range from drivers ignoring speed limits, especially in residential areas, to the collapse of infrastructure, especially roads and bridges, in the oil-rich country, according to local media.
