In the last nine months there has been a marked drought in the eastern zone of Río Negro, according to a report that was presented by professionals from INTA, DPA and the Ministry of Production who recommended the declaration of the state of emergency and/or agricultural disaster.

The analysis of the water deficit resulted in a joint meeting between representatives of Production and Agribusiness of Río Negro, the Tax Collection Agency, the Federation of Rural Societies, INTA, the DPA and the Provincial Legislature.

Was presented a technical report on the current situation, which revealed a marked drought, especially in the eastern part of the provincewith an accentuated deficit between the last 6 to 9 months.

The data allowed the Provincial Agricultural Emergency Commission to recommend the declaration of a state of emergency due to drought for the Adolfo Alsina, Avellaneda, Conesa, El Cuy, General Roca and Pichi Mahuida departments.

In addition, it was decided to maintain a state of alert in the Central-Eastern departments of the province, especially San Antonio Oeste, Valcheta and 9 de Julio, given the possibility of complications if adequate rainfall does not occur in the coming months.

During the meeting there was a review of the actions on assistance in the area most affected by the drought. Among them, the three workshops held in the Rural Societies of Río Colorado, General Conesa and Choele Choel were mentioned. They are coordinated by technicians from the Río Negro Bovine Livestock Program and INTA, who had the participation of approximately 150 producers where ideas and strategies were generated to face the crisis.

The approval of lines of credit, where of the 48 approved last week, 35 were allocated to animal supplementation. In total, deliveries for an amount of 120 million pesos were confirmed, of which 80 million were specifically assigned for that task.

“These figures reflect the need for financing and the urgency felt by producers to supplement their animals, due to the marked water deficit“, highlighted the Secretary of Livestock of the province, Tabaré Bassi.

New financing for productive sectors in Río Negro

The Rio Negro Minister of Production and Agroindustry, Carlos Banacloy, met last week in Buenos Aires with the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Nation, Juan José Bahilo, to Review the progress made during the last year of work and future investments.

The results of the specific tools for each of the productive sectors, such as the LANAR and GANAR plans, were analyzed. “The efforts made for emergencies, both fruit, poultry, horticultural and fireproof, are the first step to address the situation. After that, and in the medium term, they are already working on and managing new lines of financing for fruit growing, a fund that is around 1,200 million pesos that should also be disbursed in the next two months,” said Banacloy.

Also stressed that “all these advances were possible thanks to the contributions and support of Naciónthrough the Ministry of Agriculture. It is estimated that the transfer of funds for the end of the 2022 to 2023 financial year will be around 2,500 million pesos.

Banacloy also mentioned “the efficient and rapid handling of the avian flu situation, noting that regarding 500 million pesos to deal with this emergency.”
