Tufan Erhürman, Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP), pointed out that we are going through a period in which “the mind of the Turkish Cypriot people is tried to be mocked” on many issues and said, “The Turkish Cypriot people will know what to do when the day comes, and the day is about to come.”
Tufan Erhürman, who was a guest on Northern Cyprus TV, stated that the government wanted to avoid the early elections as much as possible. Pointing to the importance of protecting the institutional structure of the Turkish Cypriot people, Erhürman criticized the government’s continued use of the word stability without hesitation.
“Society is capable of governing itself”
According to the statement made by the CTP, Erhürman pointed out the importance of protecting the institutional and organized structure of the Turkish Cypriot people and underlined the need to “tremble” on the institutional structure of the country.
Erhürman harshly criticizes the statements of “Turkish Cypriots are lazy, Turkish Cypriots can’t do anything, Turkish Cypriots are a crowd pursuing personal interests” and pointed out that when the trained human resources of Turkish Cypriots are looked at, there is no other society that produces such well-trained people from a small population.
Erhürman said, “We know that this society is capable of governing itself” and emphasized that their duty is to protect the institutional structure of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Stating that the will of the people needs to be renewed because the will is not used against such a government, Erhürman said, “The way to go to early elections is to lift the fingers in the Parliament. “These friends want to escape the early elections as much as they can,” he said.
“You will drift away”
Erhürman said, “To bring the election dates determined in the Constitution into discussion is to put dynamite in the democratic structure of a people.”
Pointing out that what needs to be done is the early general election, Erhürman said, “Since the early general election was rejected, we cannot be expected to be a party to the unconstitutionality. By-elections should be held in June. “We are facing a challenge in terms of analytical thinking,” he said.
Calling the government, Tufan Erhürman said, “You are avoiding going to the early elections, you have determined the mission of a deputy in the elections. A flare will be fired here and you will be dragged into the early selection. As a result of this by-election, these people will say to you that you will go to the early general elections.” Speaking about the target in the next by-election, Erhürman said, “This election, not to increase our 18 deputies to 19, but to carry them to the early elections,” he said.

Speaking about the opposition’s rhetoric towards them, Erhürman recalled the words of Ferdi Sabit Soyer, one of the former presidents of the CTP, and said, “Even if you’re going to slap someone, leave a place to kiss on the cheek.”
Tufan Erhürman said, “On the one hand, those who say let us cooperate, criticize whatever the CTP does, day and night, through the press. We are always ready for cooperation. We do not and will not engage in an attitude of opposing any opposition party. Our mission is to give the necessary answers to the mentality that brought this country to this state. It is an effort to make the democratic will of the people dominant. Is the government more criticized by some segments, or is it the opposition? What do these friends desire? Let the public decide,” he said. Stating that those who turned the government into a “chair game” continued to use the word stability without hesitation, Erhürman emphasized that the word stability was mopped.

Erhürman, who also spoke about the words of Finance Minister Alişan Şan that “there is no impoverishment in the country” and “there is a calming down in the economy”, said, “I don’t understand what reason Mr. Alişan Şan said it serves”.
“There was calmness in the economy. The day he said this was the day that the gap between buying and selling in the dollar, euro and sterling reached historical clearance. The issue is very big,” Erhürman said, adding that the purchasing power of the Turkish Cypriot people is decreasing day by day.
Stating that they went to visit the Güzelyurt and Famagusta markets, Erhürman said, “We would not be able to sell anything if the Greek Cypriots did not shop.” The purchasing power of the Turkish Cypriot people is going down every moment. It’s something that people on the street experience every minute of one-on-one. They act as if they are calling out to us from another world. We are going through a period in which the minds of the Turkish Cypriot people are tried to be mocked on many issues. The Turkish Cypriot people know what to do when the day comes, and the day is about to come,” he added.
