MEXICO CITY.— In order for the October 1 of every six years when the federal Executive Power changes, employees enjoy a mandatory day of rest, Federal deputy of the PRI Maria de Jesus Aguirre Maldonado presented to the Permanent Commission an initiative to reform the Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law.

The legislator argued that for a long time the Constitution in its article 83 determined that the President would enter into office on December 1 and would last for six years.

He indicated that in accordance with the above, the Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law, which refers to mandatory rest daysestablished in its section VII, that December 1st of every 6 yearsfor the transmission of power to the federal Executive, It would be mandatory for employees to enjoy that holiday.

However, he explained that the current article 83 of the Constitution He points out that October 1 will be the day the President takes office to begin his administration. He specified that this is in accordance with the decree that was published on February 10, 2014, derived from the Political Electoral Reform of that same year, in which it was agreed that the change would operate until the 2024 election.

For this reason, he stressed, it is urgent to modify article 74 of said law and its section VII, so that it is in harmony with the indicated constitutional precept.

This way, Article 74 would establish that January 1st are mandatory days of rest, the first Monday in February in commemoration of February 5ththe third Monday in March in commemoration of the March 21, May 1, September 16 and the third Monday of November in commemoration of November 20.
