They strengthen response capacity in the fight against arboviruses in Alto Paraná

Asunción, IP Agency.- A 4×4 truck, a minibus for 12 people, computer equipment, uniforms and other materials were delivered to strengthen the operation of Zone X, Alto Paraná, and thus increase the resources of the operational force in the surveillance and control of dengue. Zika and chikungunya in the east of the country.

The supplies were delivered in an event held at the headquarters of the Alto Paraná governorate, with the assistance of the Minister of Public Health, María Teresa Barán, among other authorities.

This delivery is part of the implementation of the strategic plan for the distribution of equipment and supplies, through an alliance between the Ministry of Public Health, through the National Malaria Eradication Service (SENEPA) with Itaipú Binacional and Fundación Tesãi.

These vehicles will be used in the sectors located in the cities of President Franco, Hernandarias, Los Cedrales, Minga Guazu, Juan Leon Mallorquin, Santa Rita, San Alberto and Itakyry.

The Minister of Public Health highlighted the work of SENEPA in the fight once morest vector-borne diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, Chagas, leishmaniasis and malaria.

“The senepero is not in the air-conditioned offices, but in the countryside, visiting house to house, a fundamental job not only in the destruction and elimination of breeding sites, but also being that first link of the Paraguayan State in the houses (… ) This has contributed enormously to the fact that today the dengue epidemic is practically at a plateau,” he pointed out.

Likewise, he thanked Itaipú for its cooperation and spoke of the importance of maintaining Paraguay’s malaria-free status.

For his part, the general director of SENEPA, José Montiel emphasized the importance of work on the ground and the delivery of equipment and materials to facilitate interventions.

Prevention and control in various departments

The project, called “Support for arbovirosis prevention and control actions in the Departments of Alto Paraná, Canindeyú, Central, Presidente Hayes, Guairá and Caaguazú”, contemplates the acquisition of vehicles, machinery, advanced technology equipment, uniforms, supplies various, informative materials, as well as logistical reinforcement for the brigades.

The ceremony was also attended by the governor of Alto Paraná, César Torres; Noelia Torres, director of the X Health Region; Julio Paredes, executive coordination director of Itaipú; Fernando Bittinger, executive manager of Health Foundation; departmental and local authorities, among other guests.
