A soccer match was the scene of the most recent expression of urban violence in the city of Córdoba. The sports match was played between two groups of acquaintances at the Rancagua Complex, but it ended in a shootout that left at least two gunshot wounds according to official records.
Investigators do not rule out that the confrontation began due to a latent rivalry between members of the barra brava of Club Atlético Racing in the Nueva Italia neighborhood.
They also did not provide precise information on the number of projectiles that were collected at the place where the brawl took place.
The truth is that both groups of acquaintances arrived at the courts located at the intersection of Avenida Rancagua and Julián Laguna following 9:00 p.m. last Wednesday. But following 10:30 p.m., what was apparently a friendly match turned into a pitched battle.
“They started fighting because they belong to warring factions of a soccer fan and one pulled out a gun with which he started shooting,” said a source who preferred to remain anonymous for fear.
In this conglomerate of courts that stands in the center of the Villa Corina neighborhood, northeast of the capital city, confusion and fear began to reign, according to reports.
Someone took his phone and called the police.
The same information was confirmed by police sources, who arrived at the scene alerted by that 911 call.
Moments before the arrival of the force, the group was playing soccer, without any disturbance or a trigger for the subsequent racket having been recorded, according to the Police report.
An exchange of attacks began to take place immediately, which, according to police information, continued with a first shot at a man who was on the pitch.
When some people wanted to intercede to calm the situation, they received an excessive amount of blows for it.
Transfer of wounded and the appearance of a well-known barrabrava
One of the injured had to be transferred to the Juan Pablo II dispensary, just 20 blocks from where the events occurred. According to what was reported by the Police, the man was treated for the bullet he had received, although it was confirmed that his state of health was not serious.
Minutes later, a 46-year-old man, wounded by a gunshot, was admitted to the Comipaz prompt care hospital, 30 blocks from where the confrontation took place.
The injured man was Matías Gastón Rebuffo (46), a name linked to the Racing world who also became important for being one of the three Argentine fans who attacked a Croatian fan during the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The man was assisted by a wound to his right leg as a result of the impact of a bullet. Another projectile had entered his torso, the right side of his body.
At the medical center they found that Rebuffo was conscious and stable, although he remained under observation.
The investigators did not rule out that, as a result of the same fight, there may not have been an even greater number of gunshot wounds.
Once the Police withdrew from the scene, in the sports complex where the acts of violence took place, the attacks were not repeated and there were no new confrontations.
Regular visitors to the place clarified that this is not a common situation. On the contrary, the users of the soccer fields that are rented in that corner of Villa Corina were surprised by what had happened.
“It is the first time that something similar has happened since I came to play football here. Surely it is a problem that comes from outside, because none of those who rent the courts come to play with a gun in their bag, ”said a source who requested that his identity be withheld.
This medium tried to contact those responsible for the sports complex but was unable to do so.
