They seek to include fibromyalgia in the GES and two types of cancer in preventive medicine exams.

The Chamber of the Chamber of Deputies and Deputies approved resolutions 197, 198 and 199. The initiatives seek that, from the Executive and the Ministry of Health, a series of preventive examinations for certain types of cancers be available.

In the opinion of the parliamentarians, the State must assume the important task of promoting the best living conditions for citizens. Likewise, it must ensure “the right to health protection.

Taking this into account, Resolution 197 states that gastric cancer is the leading cause of death from malignant tumors in men. It is also the fourth cause in women.

For this reason, it is requested that the necessary legal and administrative mechanisms be activated so that the H. Pylori stool antigen test is incorporated into the list of Preventive Medicine Examinations (EMPA).

The proposal was presented by parliamentarians Marta Bravo, Álvaro Carter, Daniel Lilayu, Cristhian Moreira, Marco Antonio Sulantay, Renzo Trisotti, Gastón Von Mühlenbrock and Flor Weisse. They were joined by deputies Marlene Pérez and Natalia Romero.

Colorectal cancer

The same parliamentary group presented resolution 198. In it, it is proposed that Occult Bleeding in Feces be carried out as preventive tests to detect colorectal cancer. As in the previous case, it is requested that it be incorporated into the EMPA-list.

It is suggested that this type of sample is cheaper compared to colonoscopy to prevent and detect the signs of this cancer.

As reported, in Chile, more than 6,200 new cases of colorectal cancer are diagnosed each year. And, unfortunately, there are around 3,200 deaths annually from this pathology.

This becomes even more worrisome if we consider that colon cancer is the only one that has experienced an increase in recent years in our country. Only in the last decade mortality increased by 116%.

Fibromyalgia

In the same way, the Chamber approved resolution 199. Through it, the Executive is requested to provide legal and administrative mechanisms so that fibromyalgia is included in the Explicit Health Guarantees Plan (GES).

In addition, it is expected that a higher level of training of health professionals will be promoted. The objective is to encourage more resources for their research and achieve a better diagnosis.

The text presented by the deputy Marta Bravo indicates that, currently, this disease, of high cost, affects a percentage of 2 to 3% of the Chilean population, mainly women.

It is explained that fibromyalgia is a pathology difficult to detect. In addition, its characteristics are associated with everyday somatic abnormalities such as generalized body pain, insomnia, fatigue, and mood problems.
