MIAMI (AP) — The US Coast Guard rescued a 64-year-old man who was stranded on an island in the Bahamas for three days following a plane sighted flares fired near a grounded sailboat.
Crew members from the Miami Coast Guard Air Station dropped water, food and a radio to maintain communication with the man, whose name was not released.
The schooner Paul Clark rescued the man on Friday off Salt Cay in the Bahamas, the agency said in a statement. The man was in good health, he added.
“We are proud to have saved this man’s life,” said Cpl Dev Craig. “This case is a perfect example of why one should have the proper safety equipment on their boat. Had he not seen the flare, the case might not have had a lucky outcome.”
