They request to create an investigative commission to supervise operations of a Venezuelan airline in Chile | National

Two deputies requested the creation of a Special Investigative Commission in order to gather information related to acts of the Government related to the operations of the Venezuelan state airline CONVIASA carried out within the national territory.

Deputies Francisco Undurraga (Evópoli) and Andrés Jouannet (IND) requested the creation of a Special Investigative Commission, in order to control the acts of the Government related to the operations of the Venezuelan state airline CONVIASA, carried out within the national territory.

In particular, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding on April 6, 2022, within the framework of the International Air Fair (FIDA)between the Civil Aeronautics Board (JAC) of the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications of Chile and the Institute of Civil Aeronautics of Venezuela (INAC), to broaden the spectrum of the Venezuela-Chile aviation relationship.

To this is added the landing on June 22, 2022 in the Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport of an Airbus A340 aircraft from Caracas, and operated by the aforementioned state airline, registration YV3533.

Aircraft detained in Argentina for possible acts of terrorism

According to the deputies, this is related to a situation that occurred in Argentina, where an aircraft currently registered in the name of the Venezuelan airline EMTRASUR (YV3531), Boeing 747, acquired a few months earlier from the Iranian line Mahan Airlines, arrived at Ezeiza Airport , in Buenos Aires, on June 6, 2022.

The latter was arrested for possible acts of terrorism by its crew members, of Iranian nationality, according to the request of the Argentine Prosecutor’s Office, which has caused alarm in international public opinion.

Said flight, to which previously the government of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay
denied access to its airspace, today he is being investigated by the Argentine justice system for possible links with terrorist groups, both of the original owner of the aircraft and of some of its crew members of Iranian nationality.

CONVIASA airline plane lands in Chile

The document also mentions that on June 22 of this year, at approximately 2:30 p.m., an Airbus A340 aircraft from Caracas and operated by the Venezuelan state airline CONVIASA landed at the Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport.

Said aircraft – like the one operated by EMTRASUR and held in Argentina – was transferred, according to public information, from the Iranian airline Mahan Airlines on March 15, 2022.

The plane remained for a few hours in national territory, and to date the purpose of the flight, the identity of its crew and passengers, and the possible cargo that it was carrying or that it might incorporate on national soil are unknown.

The parliamentarians find it striking that the same plane had recently made several flights to Tehran, including one in which it transported the presidential entourage of Nicolás Maduro. He has also done the routes of Havana – Buenos Aires – Caracas; Caracas – Tehran – Moscow; and Moscow – Tehran – Caracas.
