- Lawyer Omar Mora Tosta indicated that because the businessman is over 70 years old, a house arrest measure should have been given.

“Gurimetal is a company with many years of experience, where they use metals, that is why there are metals there. It is a company with tradition. He said that the businessman should have been placed under house arrest because he is over 70 years of age, as established in Article 231 of the Venezuelan Organic Code of Criminal Procedure.

Preventive judicial deprivation of liberty may not be ordered for persons over 70 years of age, for women in the last three months of pregnancy, for mothers breastfeeding their children up to six months following birth, or for persons affected by a duly verified terminal illness.
In these cases, if any precautionary measure of a personal nature is essential, house arrest or confinement in a specialized center will be ordered.
The Human Rights Committee of the Vente Venezuela party reported on July 11 that businessman Ricardo Albacete was detained by members of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin). Albacete had hosted opposition leader María Corina Machado in his home, located in the state of Táchira, during her visit to that state.
“Ricardo Albacete Vidal was arrested by Sebin officials in Caracas on the followingnoon of July 11. Hours earlier, his properties in the state of Táchira were raided, including the house where María Corina Machado stayed during her visit to the state,” the political party wrote on its X account.
Detentions reported at opposition campaign events
Mora, along with lawyers Tamara Bechar and Perkins Rocha, from the Comando Con Venezuela, confirmed at the press conference the arrest of citizens Néstor Viloria, Elisaul Rodríguez and Mire Aguilar, responsible for the truck in which María Corina Machado and Edmundo González traveled in the political event that took place on July 13 in Valencia, Carabobo.
The incident occurred at the La Viña Clinic in Valencia, the lawyers explained.
They also rejected the arrest of Ángel Aristimuño, member of the presidential candidate’s campaign command and president of Un Nuevo Tiempo in Monagas, as well as Denys Martínez and César Tiapa, leaders of the Vente Venezuela and Copei parties in Anaco, Anzoátegui state.
The defenders also mentioned the arrest of Mary Rodríguez and Mayra Montilla, also members of the campaign command in Guanare, Portuguesa state.
Call to the CNE
The legal advisors called on the National Electoral Council (CNE) not to allow the electoral process of July 28 to be “tainted.” They reiterated that the government of Nicolás Maduro has attacked members of the campaign team and civil society in different states of the country.
“The responsibility of a clean campaign rests on your shoulders. Venezuela wants to accompany you in this patriotic feat, but you cannot allow what is happening in the country today. Do not let any factor tarnish the process,” said Perkins Rocha.

He insisted that state resources have been used to favour one of the campaigns, in addition to the participation of public officials in opposition events to “intimidate” and “generate fear.”
The lawyers recalled the “verbal aggression” that Machado and González engaged in at a food establishment in La Encrucijada, Aragua state. They stated that the attack was carried out by officials from the Mariño Mayor’s Office and the Legislative Council of that state.
