Asunción, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported on the “good progress” of the works on Lot 1 of route PY21, section Puerto Indio – Empalme Supercarretera. The new route will soon benefit 150,000 inhabitants of Alto Paraná and especially the city of Mbaracayú.

The MOPC report reveals that this first lot is 27 km long, where various interventions are carried out such as excavations, subgrade at km 23.1 and reinforcement for cellular gallery. The reinforcements are also being prepared for the foundation of the bridge that will be located at km 20.7.

One of the purposes of this road infrastructure is to improve the connectivity and accessibility of production in an area where it is estimated that 12,000 vehicles pass through daily. This also seeks to enhance commercial exchange between Paraguay and Brazil.

The new highway will also allow the reduction of the logistical costs involved in using the Puerto Indio pier for the departure of soybean, corn and wheat production to Brazil through Puerto Santa Helena, where an integrated control area is located. border of both countries.

About the work

This venture is being carried out in two lots totaling 60.36 km with the objective of optimizing connectivity throughout its area of ​​influence, integrating productive and logistical activities, which will contribute to consolidating the economic development of the Alto Paraná region.

Lot 1 – which starts in the area of ​​the Itakyry intersection and goes up to km 27 – is in charge of the company Benito Roggio e Hijos SA under the supervision of the Grimaux Consortium – Electroconsult.

Lot 2 starts at km 27 and ends at km 60.3, in Puerto Indio. There the responsible construction company is LT SA with supervision by the TYPSA – AII Consortium.

There are 30 months established in the contract for the authorization of the road, then it moves on to the maintenance stage for a period of 60 months. The initiative is from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and is financed through a loan from the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF).
