An approximate of 200 Venezuelan migrants, who are stranded in Mexico, carried out a riot on Wednesday at the station of the National Institute of Migration (INM) in Tijuana, Mexico.

Apparently a group of 40 people broke into areas near the INM this Wednesday morning, this in order to incite the migrants gathered there to join the protest to demand that they not be deported, as part of the new emigration measure. that the United States government initiated last week for citizens of Venezuela.

A public security operation was deployed on the site, so that it might “safeguard the integrity of the staff and the migrants themselves.”

The secretary of Security and Citizen Protection of the Municipality of Tijuana, José Fernando Sánchez, confirmed this to the media following receiving a call for help for the presence of the security force.

It also transpired that following the disturbance at said immigration station, the authorities transferred a group of Venezuelans to the INM station in Mexicali, the capital of Baja California, to maintain greater control.

The place was also attended by Red Cross personnel to assist some of the people who suffered some alteration due to the events, in addition to personnel from the Baja California State Human Rights Commission (Cedhbc) to record what happened.

Relatives of people who work in said migratory station also went to the place and informed the media that from inside the people communicated with them through video calls to ask for help, since they did not know what might happen at that time.

Municipal authorities did not record any injuries or damages in particular due to these events, while the federal immigration authority has not established any official position in this regard.

The facts reflect the growing flow of migrants from Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, which represented more than 55 thousand of the undocumented immigrants found on the US border with Mexico in August, an annual increase of 175%.

The region is experiencing a record migratory flow to the United States, whose Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has intercepted more than 2.15 million people so far in fiscal year 2022.
