“Today most races are paid, so these free races are very appreciated. The good call shows that people respond when free sports spaces are opened,” confessed Arturo Pando, athlete, who, belonging to the Tres Runners Club of Chillán and at the age of 67, ran the five km. of the Corrida Familia that brought together more than 2,500 ñublensinos as part of the celebration of National Sports Day.
Over the weekend, the Ministry of Sports, through the National Sports Institute, carried out more than 300 sports activations throughout Chile to celebrate National Sports Day in a big way, and Ñuble was no exception.
The most massive activity at the local level was a family run that took place in the heart of Chillán, which had two routes (2.5 and 5 kilometers) where more than 2,500 runners participated, from children to older adults.
The event had the support of the Regional Government, the Presidential Delegation and the Municipality of Chillán.
The circuit covered the streets of Avenidas Libertad, Argentina, Ecuador and Brazil, with the start and finish in the Plaza de Armas of the regional capital.
Luis Valencia, a Colombian national who has lived in Chillán for 10 years, confessed that “it is very emotional to see so many people doing sports, young people, children, older adults. I hope they continue to be repeated and above all that they are free like this bullfight.”
The Mindep-IND at the regional level also carried out sports activities open to the community in Quirihue and Cobquecura, with massive meetings of soccer, athletics, entertaining dance, among other disciplines.
One of the government’s objectives was to take advantage of World Sports Day to continue emphasizing the importance of physical activity to the population.
The Seremi of Sports, Julio Jorquera, explained: “we wanted to take advantage of the impulse that the Pan American and Parapan American Games left in the population, so that more and more Ñublensinos and Chileans make Sports part of their lives. For this, one of the Government’s mandates is that the opening of sports venues to the community, and the holding of massive family events, be the general norm, and not an exception.”
Hernán Blasco, Sports Advisor of the Municipality of Chillan, stressed that “for the municipality, physical activity and sports are a fundamental axis of the comprehensive development of our commune, we will continue tirelessly promoting the path of movement, as it has always been proclaimed in its management, the mayor of Chillán Camilo Benavente”
