Chore, IP.- This Friday, the sesame planting day was held in the María Auxiliadora neighborhood, Chore district, San Pedro department, in conjunction with the Paraguayan Institute of Agrarian Technology (IPTA) and Korean Project of International Agriculture (Kopia). During the activity they presented the new short cycle seed k5, k6 k7.
This new seed will benefit, in a first stage, regarding 200 local producers; subsequently, the idea is to increase the number of beneficiaries until reaching the entire department of San Pedro.
The first production would be regarding 20 to 25 thousand hectares. If production and cultivation are good, regarding 1,200 kilos per hectare would be harvested, according to what was expressed by the director of IPTA experimental centers and fields, Justo López Portillo.
For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Jorge Gattini, stated that they expect a good yield of the harvest, since the weather helped with the rain in the area.
«A very encouraging activity is a variety of sesame that has a short cycle, if planted at the right time it escapes diseases and consequently, that means greater production per hectare. It can be said that production can reach 35 thousand tons at the country level »he added.
Finally, the producers asked not to be abandoned during the cultivation and harvest season, so they expect a favorable response from the Government and the Ministry of Agriculture to continue improving their productions.
