Within the framework of the investigations carried out on the cell phone of lawyer Luis Hermosilla for the Audios Case, new WhatsApp conversations were revealed that show alleged influences used in the appointment of ministers in the Judiciary.
This was revealed by the investigative medium, Ciper Chile, which reported that the lawyer, in conversations dated 2021, would eventually have influence on the arrival of Jean Pierre Matus to the Supreme Court and Antonio Ulloa as minister of the Court of Appeals of Santiago.
Although the Eastern Prosecutor’s Office has not yet finished reviewing the report with the transcription of Hermosilla’s chats, Ciper’s report gives an account of its participation in the arrival of Jean Pierre Matus to the Supreme Court and Antonio Ulloa to the Court of Santiago .
Matus confirmed that he spoke with Hermosilla regarding his application, however he assured that he was unaware of his efforts: “I did not ask him for any action on my behalf, and I do not know that he had done so. I only made him aware of the background, given his closeness to President Piñera.”
Meanwhile, other WhatsApp conversations show the lawyer’s actions so that Antonio Ulloa Márquez became minister of the Court of Appeals of Santiago. He would have carried out two campaigns, one in 2019, which did not work, and another in 2021, where he finally managed to be named.
“I have known Luis for regarding four or five years, when I was a minister in Copiapó, and on that occasion I applied as a minister to Santiago, I was in a shortlist, and a friend told me ‘I have contact with Luis Hermosilla and he can help you help so that President Piñera appoints you,’” Ulloa told the investigative outlet.
Due to this new background, the president of the investigative commission of the so-called audio case, Daniel Manouchehri (PS), indicated that now it is necessary to investigate whether there were cases in Hermosilla ruled by said judges.
“We must investigate whether there are judicial cases represented by Hermosilla and ruled by the aforementioned judges. We already know that there was influence on the appointments, but we still do not know if there was influence or leaked information on the rulings,” the parliamentarian warned.
