Activists posted on social media pictures of the boat at the moment of its burning, as smoke appeared to rise from it, and they also published other pictures of its remains after it was burned, and of the bodies lying on the beach and burned to a large extent.

The International Rescue Committee described the killing of illegal immigrants on the coast of the city of Sabratha as “shocking”, and called for the expansion of the European Union’s operations in the Mediterranean to protect them.
