Sernapred reported this Monday followingnoon that a yellow alert was declared for the San José de Maipo commune in the Metropolitan region, due to a meteorological event with rain and thunderstorms in the Andean area.
The situation has generated landslides, particularly in the Baños Morales sector, following it was isolated with 49n people, who are in good condition, the authorities reported.
The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) referred to this situation, indicating that road teams are working to clear the place.
“The Ministry of Public Works reports a large landslide of material in the high mountains, in the Baños Morales sector. Road crews on site. The climatic condition caused a large landslide in San José de Maipo,” the MOP tweeted.
In addition to the landslides, this Monday morning turbidity in the water was also reported, for which Aguas Andinas declared a preventive early warning, and well reserves have been occupied to supply the capital.
To mitigate the impact of turbidity in rivers, the company has developed a plan that makes it possible to face the effects of climate change, such as convective rains, thus reinforcing the continuity of supply. This has allowed us to go from 4 hours in 2011 to 37 hours of autonomy today.
Regarding the climatic situation, the Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) warned that probable electrical storms are expected in Andean sectors until the night of Tuesday, January 10. Likewise, through the Meteorological Threat Report and Public Forecast of the DMC, rainfall is forecast for the Andean sector of the region.
