Asunción, IP Agency.- This Monday, May 6, will be asthma control day, with free medical consultations and spirometry studies. It will be from 08:00 to 11:00 in the central hall of the boarding block of the Hospital de Clínicas.
The activity is organized by the Pulmonology Service of the Faculty of Medical Sciences in commemoration of World Asthma Day.
There will also be an informative talk regarding how to identify the disease early, when to go for a consultation and how often to have check-ups.
The spirometry study allows us to determine the functionality of the lungs and is the standard for diagnosing bronchial asthma, so the invitation is extended to those patients who believe they may have asthma on Monday.
About the disease
Bronchial asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the lungs that affects one third of the population. It manifests itself with difficulty breathing, chest squeaks, cough and colds, and it is important to detect it early for adequate treatment. According to statistics, between 32 to 34% of the Paraguayan population suffers from bronchial asthma. The disease can manifest itself at any age, but it is reversible.
It is characterized above all by difficulty breathing, chest squealing, sometimes cough and cold, which is why it is often confused with other types of diseases. He further stated that since it is a hereditary disease, patients with a family history should consult in a timely manner.
“Stable asthma can be mild, moderate or severe, and the treatment regimens vary accordingly. Therefore, it is very important for lung health to detect the disease early and have it under control,” said Dr. Sergio Aquino, head of the Pulmonology Chair and Service.
