The former Minister of Economy and Planning of Cuba, Alejandro Gil Fernández, is under rigorous investigation for serious errors committed during his position.
The portal of Cubadebate published a note on the delicate topic in the handwriting of the President of the Island, Miguel Díaz-Canel. The text explains that “serious errors by Gil were determined in the performance of his duties.”
“Taking into account the degree of verification of the facts, and at the proposal of the Attorney General’s Office, the Party and the Council of State approved that the Ministry of the Interior initiate the corresponding actions for the complete clarification of these behaviors.”
The note admits that from the beginning of the investigations, Gil acknowledged the serious accusations. Hence, he resigned his status as a member of the Central Committee of the Party and as a Deputy to the National Assembly of People’s Power.
Gray mandate
As it emerged several weeks ago, Cuba dismissed the then Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil, alleging a movement of cadres. Just days following that, this current and profound investigation comes to light regarding who “guided” the Island to several projects that never worked.
Gil Fernández was one, along with Marino Murillo, of those who led the reorganization process in Cuba. In the end it was recognized that it was a mistake due to the moment in which the radical change in the ways of operating the Island’s economy was carried out.
Returning to the official note, it is explained that Cuba will not allow the proliferation of corruption, simulation and insensitivity. “The permanent confrontation, transparency and zero tolerance for this type of demonstrations that affect the people will be maintained legally. The higher the level of trust placed in a painting, the greater the rigor and intransigence with which actions will be taken in the face of events of this nature.”
