Asunción, IP Agency.- The National Electricity Administration (ANDE) intervened in a property dedicated to crypto mining in the department of Alto Paraná. The losses caused to the state company are around G. 92 million.
The procedure was carried out through inter-institutional cooperation between the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), the Public Ministry and the National Police, in the Ysapy neighborhood of Ciudad del Este, department of Alto Paran.
In the property, a supply was identified whose connection to the electrical distribution network was made clandestinely and without any type of measurement, irregularly feeding 10 cryptocurrency processors.
Given this situation, a formal complaint was filed with the Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Unit No. 9 for the crime of illegal theft of electrical energy, within the framework of Law No. 7300/2024 of Paraguay, “Which protects the integrity of the system.” electric, provides for the seizure and confiscation of assets associated with punishable acts and modifies article 173 of Law No. 1160/1997 Penal Code.”
During the verification, an average current per phase of 37 amperes at low voltage was detected, which is equivalent to a total load of 24.42 kW. This represents an estimated property damage of G. 92,000,000 derived from the irregularity detected. This amount, in addition to the expenses for intervention and application of the fine according to Law No. 966/64, must be paid by those responsible for the crime.
In the operation, which had police accompaniment, the prosecutor in charge Alcides Giménez ordered the seizure of the 10 processing machines that were dismantled on site and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry, remaining under protection at the ANDE headquarters.
ANDE reminds citizens in general that “stealing electricity is a crime” (Law No. 7300/2024), with penalties of up to 10 years in prison.
