Havana Transportation Authorities reported this Thursday evening that they were interrupting the services of the Regla boat, in the Bay of the capital, due to bad weather and strong winds in the area.
The Provincial Transportation Company informed the population that, for reasons of safety of the vessel and passengers, the decision had been made to temporarily suspend the service of the Lancha de Regla.
This measure responded to the strength of the winds that were recorded at that time in the Bay of Havana, which compromised the safe operation of maritime transport in the area.
The decision was adopted in order to protect both the integrity of the passengers and that of the boat itself, in compliance with the safety standards established for this type of circumstances.
Likewise, it was specified that the Lanchita de Regla service would be resumed as soon as the weather conditions improved and allowed safe transit through the bay.
Temporary Lanchita de Regla service interrupted
In the official note, the Provincial Transportation Company in Havana deeply regretted the inconveniences that this interruption may cause to users.
They recommended that the population opt for alternative means of land transportation while the situation persists and stay informed through official channels, which will communicate any news or updates regarding the resumption of service.
According to Insmet, Cuban Meteorology, for today, November 1, the sky will be partially cloudy in much of the country, with occasional cloudy clouds and some rain in areas of the northern coast during the early morning and morning hours.
«The winds will be from the northeast to the east, with speeds between 15 and 30 kilometers per hour, up to 35 kilometers per hour in areas of the north coast, with higher gusts. There will be swells on the northern western and eastern coasts, on the rest of the coasts there will be waves,” they noted.

**Interview with María González, Havana Transportation Authority Spokesperson**
**Interviewer**: Thank you for joining us today, María. Can you explain to our viewers why the Regla ferry service has been suspended?
**María González**: Thank you for having me. The decision to suspend the Regla ferry service is primarily due to the imminent safety risks presented by Hurricane Helene, which is currently a category 1 hurricane. The strong winds and adverse weather conditions in the Bay of Havana have made it unsafe for the ferry to operate.
**Interviewer**: What specific conditions prompted this decision?
**María González**: Our transportation team continuously monitors weather conditions. As the winds increased significantly, we determined that operating the Lancha de Regla would pose dangers not only to the vessel itself but also to the safety of our passengers. It’s crucial that we prioritize their safety during such adverse weather events.
**Interviewer**: How will the local population be informed about such changes in ferry service?
**María González**: We have a communication plan in place. The Provincial Transportation Company is actively updating the public through various channels, including social media and local news outlets. Additionally, information will be disseminated at ferry terminals and through direct notices to keep everyone informed of the service status.
**Interviewer**: Can you give us an idea of when the service might resume?
**María González**: It’s difficult to provide a precise timeline at this point, as it largely depends on weather conditions. We are monitoring the situation closely and will only resume service when we are confident that it is safe to do so. The safety of our passengers and crew is our top priority.
**Interviewer**: Lastly, what advice do you have for residents and visitors during this hurricane?
**María González**: We advise everyone to stay indoors during the storm, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow updates from local authorities. It’s essential to stay safe and be prepared for any changes in weather conditions. We appreciate the community’s understanding and cooperation during this time.
**Interviewer**: Thank you, María, for sharing this important information with us.
**María González**: Thank you for having me. Stay safe, everyone.
