“They hurt me on purpose”: Mia Regev revealed the abuse she suffered in captivity

Mia Regev, who was released from Hamas captivity in the second step of the deal, told in an interview she gave to Yael Odem on News 12 about the abuse she suffered from the terrorists who treated her leg that was hit by a gunshot.

“They hurt me on purpose,” she said about the treatment of her leg that was shot during the escape from the Nova party. “Sometimes they would take chlorine, alcohol or apple cider vinegar and pour into the gunshot wounds while applying pressure.

“So that I wouldn’t scream, then they would drug me with ketamine and phetidine intravenously. It’s more of a muscle relaxant than a pain reliever, so I just didn’t have the ability to react to them – but I did feel it.”

Regarding what kept her going during those difficult days, Mia said: “I had two choices, to lie on the mattress and cry that I miss my parents, to cry that I was shot, to cry that I was in captivity and just get closer – or pick myself up and fight. I think that in the end is really what saved me.”

She said that she wanted to study medicine: “When I was there, I told myself that if I get out of this and get home – I want to take care of people properly.”

Mia unexpectedly underwent two surgeries this week and talked about the series of surgeries she is still undergoing: “On Thursday I underwent the eighth surgery. This is a never-ending infection – I came back from Gaza with a fungus that grew inside my bone because of their really poor treatment.”

Mia also said: “I am always asked what you would most like to do, and the first thing I say is to stand on two feet first. Since October I have been confined to a bed or a wheelchair. There were times when I had really bad falls – I already shouted at my parents: ‘Take me to surgery, I don’t want this leg.’ If they had put a prosthesis on me, I would probably already be walking.”
