Businessman, Andronicus Luksicreiterated his apprehensions and concerns regarding the process of drafting a new constitution for Chile. The billionaire highlighted the objective of writing “a new social pact”, but considered that the work carried out by the Constitutional ConventionHe has not met your expectations.

“Unfortunately, in light of the advances in their work, it seems that they have not taken the weight of the enormous opportunity they have to give a boost to Chile, its civic coexistence and the need to meet once more and move forward with clear rules and sensible to face the future,” said Luksic, in his capacity as chairman of Quiñenco’s board of directors.

Luksic’s apprehensions with the new Constitution: “The tone of the debate and some of the proposals are (…) a source of deep concern for the future of Chile”

The businessman’s opinion was written in the letter to the group’s shareholders in the 2021 report, which was published this Thursday.

Luksic also highlighted the role that the freedom to undertake and personal effort have had for the country. “We hope that both pillars continue to have a place in the foundations of the new social pact that is intended for the country. The absence of these conditions would be very harmful for Chile”, he added.

regarding his position on the plebiscite to be held on September 4the businessman made a call to analyze the final text to “make an informed decision”, and said that participating in the voting process is “a moral obligation”.

Luksic also took the opportunity to defend his fellow businessmen following the criticism they have received in recent times. “In the midst of a confusing and caricatured public debate, he often casts all businessmen as defenders of the the status quo, as opponents of change. I dare to say that, in general, companies and those who run them are prone to change, and are always open to innovation and permanent adaptation”.

He supported these statements, specifying that companies “seek to provide a permanent response to people’s needs; they design and adopt new technologies and systems that have an impact on their activity; and, with the same force, they must constantly adapt to respond to the demands that emanate from their workers, customers, suppliers or from the relationship with the environment and the communities where they are present”.

On the other hand, the businessman highlighted the good performance of the business lines of the holding during 2021, which is made up of Hapag-Lloyd; Chile bank; CCU; Invexans; Enex; and SM SAAM.

Another of the milestones highlighted by Luksic was that this year the Quiñenco group turns 65.
