A group of Siberian scientists concluded that a diamante found in the deposit located in Udáchnaya, Russia, might become the oldest in the world Until now. The researchers estimated the age of the gemstone to be 3.6 billion yearss.
The scientific director of the Sobolev Institute of Geology and Mineralogy of the SS ACR, Nikolay PojilenkoHe argued that diamonds hidden in great depths often rise to the surfaces of volcanic vents. It is presumed that the diamond was formed at a temperature of 1,400º Celsius, under a depth of 180 kilometers.
Likewise, the researchers determined that the stone found differs from the formation of diamonds in our times, since the pressure and temperature changed, affecting the depths where the crystals originate.
The Udachnaya mining site
The mining deposit located in Udáchnaya is one of the most important in Russia. Since 1960, the area has been studied by geologists, since they find diamonds that surfaced millions of years ago, some coming from 250 kilometers deep.
