The Mexican rhythmic gymnastics team, with its strong Yucatecan aroma, has already begun to write its history at the headquarters of the Paris Olympic Games.
The five members of the team that will be competing in the most important competition on the planet for the first time trained yesterday on the court of the Porte de la Chapella Arena (Chapel Gate). It was, according to the expressions of the five young Mexican girls and their coach, a unique experience. “Living the dream,” the young coach Blajaiht Aguilar posted on her Facebook wall.
The members are three Yucatecans, Adirem Tejeda Amaro, captain; Dalia Alcocer Piña and Julia Gutiérrez Pereyra, the youngest of the entire delegation (at 16 years of age), as well as Ana Sofía Flores Valdez from Durango and Kimberly Salazar López from Tamaulipas. It has been noted that this is the first time that a national team of any discipline has had so many athletes from the province.
For more than an hour, they performed their routines yesterday, repeating their exercises with hoop, ball and ribbon over and over again to the tune of “Born to be alive” by Patrick Hernandez. Then they had the opportunity to sit on the comfortable sofas where they will receive their grades.
Rhythmic gymnastics starts today. Tomorrow the tricolor team debuts and its finals will be on Saturday.— Gaspar Silveira
