They don’t even respect the dead

Maximou decided to grant the members of the committee of experts charged with investigating the accident immunity that is highly offensive to the families of the victims.

The Mitsotakis government proceeded with the most miserable attempt to cover up the responsibilities in the unspeakable tragedy of Tempi. The Maximos Palace decided to provide provocative and highly insulting – especially for the families of the victims – immunity to the members of the committee of experts that has undertaken the investigation of the accident, through a surprise amendment which was passed last night by the Plenary.

The regulation on the commission’s do not pursue was tabled at midnight on Wednesday – in the usual anti-parliamentary practice of the New Democracy – and spreads an oversized veil of protection to the three members appointed by the government, which is completely exposed and must give convincing explanations for this incomprehensible her study.

The disgraceful amendment specifically provides that members “shall not be held liable, prosecuted or examined for any opinion they have expressed or vote they have cast in the exercise of their duties in the context of its operation, unless they have acted with malice”.

The ball on the platform

It is also pointed out in the regulation that, in case the members of the committee are prosecuted for possible fraud, their support and representation may be assigned to an official of the Legal Council of the State or to a lawyer of their choice, whose fee is paid by the State itself . Despite the reactions, especially from SYRIZA, the government refrained from giving an explanation, with the otherwise calm Adonis Georgiadis spectacularly throwing the ball on the platform, refusing to apologise.

“SYRIZA accused us of a cover-up. Can SYRIZA come to the podium and say that Justice is subordinate to New Democracy? It is unprecedented for someone to be convicted 13-0 by the courts.

Ah, it is logical that he has an aversion to the Greek Justice” said Adonis Georgiadis, choosing to attack Nikos Pappa for the case of television licenses, instead of giving an explanation for the scandalous arrangement.

As for the materially responsible – and until recently disappeared from the face of the Earth – Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Michalis Papadopoulos, he claimed from the platform, following the pressure of the opposition, that “he is used to operating in this way to shield the independence of the committee”, while declared ignorance (!) regarding whether the regulation came at the request of the members themselves or whether it was an initiative of the government.

Earlier, Alexis Tsipras harshly criticized the government for the controversial amendment, asking what it fears and brings such a regulation.

“The non-persecution of these people is being voted on. What are you afraid of; Are you afraid of being prosecuted for the truth? What are you afraid of and what are they afraid of? Will they not investigate the truth? Did they ask you for it or do you offer it yourself?’ he asked, getting no answer. In fact, Koumoundourou came back, following the guilty silence of the government, complaining that the vote of non-prosecution for the committee set up by Kyriakos Mitsotakis for the Tempo accident is the last step in the cover-up.

“However, the justification of the competent deputy minister, Michalis Papadopoulos, that they are voting for the non-pursuant to “shield the independence” of the committee, which they themselves appointed to control them, is the last step of indignity and an unimaginable insult to the victims and their families” SYRIZA points out at the same time.

Attack

It should be noted that the “shameology” was incorporated into the Ministry of Development’s multi-bill with measures to support the families of the victims and those affected by the railway tragedy, which were voted late last night with an increased majority. “Yes” SYRIZA also said, revoking its decision, albeit exceptionally, to abstain from voting in the Parliament. Alexis Tsipras vehemently attacked the government, accusing it of failing to protect human life.

“That’s enough. When a government does not protect human life, change becomes a necessity and the necessity is History with the people’s vote,” he argued, noting that the road of cover-up ended in Tempi.

In response, Adonis Georgiadis referred to Mati, commenting that the Greek people do not suffer from collective amnesia and denouncing the “sad parliamentary show” of the official opposition leader with an eye on the next ballot.

The general secretary of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoubas, also harshly criticized the government, warning that no measure will hide the crime that happened in Tempi. At the same time, the secretary of MeRA25 Yanis Varoufakis said, addressing the “blue” seats, that “you know that the Tempi generation out there will blacken you”.
