In a historic session of the Superior Council, the UNSa convenes the University Assembly for October 14, following 20 years. The Rector’s request for the Medicine career was left off the agenda.
Last night historic moments were experienced in the new session of the Superior Council of the UNSa by calling once more a University Assembly for next October. But not everything was positive since the deliberative body left out of discussion, for the Assembly, the creation of the Faculty of Medicine, proposed by the Rector and demanded by the teachers and students of that career.
The vote took place within the framework of the 5th. Ordinary Session of the Superior Council, chaired by the rector Daniel Hoyos; the vice-rector, Nicolás Innamorato; and the secretary of the Superior Council, Cora Placco. And the vote occurred following the formal request made by the Rectorate authorities.
The rector received the accompaniment of the Superior Council of the UNSa, for which the University Assembly was formally convened for next October 14 of this year. Said Assembly will take place following 20 years, for which the university authority celebrated the approval and expressed: “Today we made history”, amid the applause of those present.
During the session, the request was also received from the headquarters of the interior of the Province, where they requested the creation of regional faculties in Orán and Tartagal. In addition, the members of the Superior Council listened to the request of teachers and students of the Medicine career for the creation of the Faculty of Medicine at the Central Headquarters of the Casa de Altos Estudios.
The October Assembly comes following 20 years and in accordance with the 50th anniversary of the creation of the UNSa.
Although, the approval for the creation of any faculty, must be dealt with by the Superior Council; the rector proposed that the request be incorporated into the agenda of the University Assembly, but his motion was rejected. In this way, the motion that the Superior Council approved on the agenda included the request for the creation of regional faculties, but did not deal with the request for the creation of the Faculty of Medicine.
Even so, the Rector celebrated the support of those present and highlighted the holding of the Assembly, where the gratuity and autonomy of the Public University of Salta will be reaffirmed in its statute. The next University Assembly will take place in the year of celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the High House of Studies of the province.
“It is a debate that has been pending a debt for many years. It is an Assembly to update or modify the statutes of the university. For our part, we are going to put on the table the need to respect all the collective agreements of all the UNSa workers. But we are also going to maintain the flag of gratuity and no tariffs, two issues that have been attacked since the time of Menem and that are still valid today,” said Adiunsa’s general secretary, Diego Maita.
