They didn’t let him vote without ID

Boris Johnson appears to have forgotten his own law after showing up at a polling station yesterday without an official photo ID.

“Electoral staff were forced to remove the former prime minister after he failed to comply with legislation introduced during his time in Downing Street,” the British network reported. A trusted associate of Johnson confirmed the incident to the Guardian.

A spokesman for Johnson, 59, did not deny the report, but said the former prime minister had exercised his right to vote, having earlier called on his countrymen through Platform X to vote for his successor’s Conservative Party. Rishi Sunak.

The election law that was passed under Johnson in 2022 despite strong criticism requires that those coming to the polling stations be identified with an official identification document that includes their photos, such as passports or driver’s licenses. Critics of the law say the rule discriminates against the poor and elderly, as well as members of minorities who are less likely to have ID.

Bad guess for Sunak

According to iefimerida, in the meantime the counting of ballots has begun for the local elections, the result of which may affect the political future of the current Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

And while a Tory defeat is expected, commentators estimate that Sunak could find himself with his back against the wall from his inner-party rivals if the Conservative Party loses more than half of the council seats it has held so far. Already the first bad word for the occupant of Downing Street came from the north of England, where the Labor Party won a parliamentary seat causing heavy losses for the ruling Conservatives.
