A 73-year-old grandmother managed to evade a scam thanks to the skills she acquired during her time as a police 911 operator in the United States. The thieves tried to trick her into a call, but

This is how Jean remembers the man who tried to steal $8,000 from her over the phone. “I got pulled over for drunk driving, Grandma,” was what she was told on the other end of the line.
A suspicious call that, in addition, had an element that did not fit.
“Start calling me ‘grandma’ then say ‘I don’t have a grandson who drives’ so I knew it was a scam”, declared the woman.
As soon as he detected the lie, he played along with it.

A tempting answer for the criminal, but that did not have a small detail: his victim is a woman experienced in crime, since she was an operator of the 911 emergency line.
The criminals fell round and one of them, posing as a finance agent, came to Jean’s house to pick up the envelope that he thought was the $8,000, but was actually full of kitchen towels.
Seconds later, Police captured the 28-year-old subject. It was a robbery modality that Jean was saved from, but it was a bittersweet victory for her.
“I felt like I caught it, but a lot of people fall for this and you only find out on the other side, following they’ve lost their money,” the former 911 operator said.
