This day, the institutions that make up the National Integrated Health System carried out the destruction of more than 300 thousand cigarettes sold without the corresponding permits, confiscated as part of the agreement within the PAHO/WHO tobacco control framework.
«We are complying with what the Tobacco Control Law mandates. Prior to the seizures, fines were imposed on the owners of the tobacco products and their derivatives, which ranged from one to 10 minimum wages in the commercial sector,” explained the director of Fosalud, Carlos Núñez.
The destroyed products had a value that exceeded $70,000 dollars, which came from Santa Ana, Ahuachapán, Sonsonate, San Salvador, San Vicente, Cabañas, Cuscatlán, La Paz, Usuluán, San Miguel, La Unión and Morazán.
In a joint effort and with the commitment to safeguard the right to health of Salvadorans, as mandated by the Tobacco Control Law, this day we proceed to destroy tobacco products that were marketed without the permits… pic.twitter.com/PTofgH4gyF
