Some 23,000 kilos of a synthetic drug precursor that had been seized last March in the port of Buenos Aires, were destroyed in the Santa Fe town of San Lorenzor, reported police sources.
The transfer operation was carried out by personnel from the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) and the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) with significant custody, which included two-manned vehicles and motorcycles.
Police sources reported that the container with the aforementioned substance arrived at the IDMA plant, where the twenty-three thousand kilos of the chemical that was in liquid format were introduced into large trays.
There, another substance was added that allowed -following placing a heat source-, evaporation into the atmosphere without any harmful nature.
According to the sources, the entire process lasted 72 hours and the cargo was completely destroyed, leaving only small samples extracted by the PFA’s Rosario Scientific Cabinet, in the event of future legal requirements.
The drug seized in Buenos Aires
The chemical substance, called metilanima, had been kidnapped in March of this year in an operation carried out jointly between the Nacrocriminality Prosecutor’s Office (Procunar), the Ministry of National Security, the Federal Police and the DGA.
According to the information provided by the investigators, the importing company was a firm with foreign capital and a long history in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.
However, in recent years it had presented financial problems that led to its bankruptcy, being acquired by a new board of directors.
Apparently, one of his last moves before the corporate change was the purchase of 23,000 kilos of methylamine by taking advantage of the age and special permits already granted by the National Registry of Chemical Precursors (Renpre) for the import, storage and treatment of that controlled substance.
Despite this, strikingly, the container arrived at the Exolgan terminal of the Port of Buenos Aires in 2017, but never left once more.
To date, everything is being studied by the investigators, however they follow the hypothesis that the link between the importer’s new partners and drug trafficking is possible.
There is a presumption of the link of an alleged important Bolivian drug trafficker with links to the Brazilian Cartel Primer Comando da Capital (PCC), and other drug trafficking actors with the substance in question, which is under study.
Apparently some arrest linked to the aforementioned organization would have caused the merchandise to remain in the port waiting for the precise moment to remove it, but the investigation by the PFA and DGA made this maneuver impossible.
The metilanima serves as a precursor for the manufacture of the well-known “designer drugs” that are usually common at night parties and its most frequent destination is for the preparation of methamphetamines and ecstasy.
