The NGO pointed out that the situation worries their families, which is why they urged the authorities of the justice system to prevent further abuses and violations of the dignity of adolescents.

On September 19, the NGO reported that although civil society organizations registered the release of more than 80 young people at the end of August, none of those involved were exonerated from precautionary measures. In addition, the organizations currently count at least 40 minors who are still imprisoned and without a response to their judicial processes.

The report of the UN Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela, presented on September 17claimed to have obtained “information on the detention of 158 boys and girls (130 boys and 28 girls)”, a figure that exceeds the records of civil society organizations, which according to their resources and capabilities reached 129.

“There are more than a hundred minors, along with their families and close friends, who today realize how the entire projection of their lives has been disrupted in absolutely violent and traumatizing ways. In the case of those who are still detained, young people face the harsh reality of having been separated from their families, in some cases isolated, incommunicado, without even the possibility of a visit from their parents. Much less will they be able to join their new school period or any complementary activity related to their training or special attention,” JEP Venezuela warned in a press release published on their website.
