Several users used social networks this week to denounce the increase in prices at Havana Airport, the “José Martí” of the Cuban capital.
A Cuban woman was surprised by the exorbitant prices of products in a cafeteria at the “José Martí” International Airport in Havana, where sweets range between 700 and 2,000 pesos.
The young woman, who documented her experience in a video shared on TikTok (@cuba.live2), highlighted the great difference between the prices of the products and the purchasing power of the majority of Cubans who are going to receive relatives or simply work there.
Even for those who go on a family trip, the price of food at the Havana airport is striking.
In the video, the young woman showed the cafeteria’s offering, which included coffee, soft drinks, cookies and sorbets, and pointed out how inaccessible these prices are for domestic travelers.

He described the airport as a space dominated by cafes and souvenir shops, highlighting that, although the variety of products is wide, most of these become unattainable due to high costs.
The young woman criticized the disconnection between the offer and the economic reality of the country, where many citizens struggle with financial difficulties.
In addition, the young woman mentioned that the airport houses other facilities, such as the airline offices and the exchange house (CADECA), which reflect a marked contrast between the luxury of the stores and the economic situation of Cubans.
This contrast highlights the inequalities that are experienced on a daily basis, where some can access exclusive products and services, while others face difficulties in meeting their basic needs, he insisted.
In another video, the young woman continued showing the airport environment, describing a space full of small businesses, travel agencies, shops and even a market.
