This Thursday, April 11, the Unitary Central of Workers (CUT) of Chile led an active national strike throughout the country, as part of a series of demands aimed at improving working and social conditions.

The president of the union, David Acuña, highlighted that the petition consists of 11 points, which include salary improvements, support for tax and pension reforms, as well as a more efficient health system, among other demands.

In a statement released from its official account on social networks, the CUT emphasized the State’s duty to address the needs and demands of workers, pointing out that “the current Government has not fulfilled the commitments made during the electoral campaign, nor has it made any progress. in the necessary reforms to guarantee a more fair and equitable system.”

During a radio interview, Acuña recalled that in February they met with the President in La Moneda to directly raise the workers’ concerns, highlighting that “the processes of change have been stopped and hindered.” In addition, he criticized the growing influence of the business community and the lack of progress due to a right that hinders necessary reforms.

The union leader also urged Parliament to legislate in favor of workers and not the particular interests of those who finance political campaigns. Likewise, he called on the State to fulfill its responsibility towards public workers and respect the commitments made.
